Medical Laboratory professionals are vital to all Health Care institutions and impact the health of every individual! This was highlighted worldwide recently with the COVID pandemic.
Our results help determine diagnosis and or treatment(s) for patients, from detecting cancer(s), heart attacks, infectious bacteria identification, diabetes, and diabetic monitoring, Covid, influenza, and even detecting drugs of abuse to name a few. 70 % of all medical decisions are based on results performed in the laboratory.
At NARMC we have 33 FTEs that include Histotechnologists (HTL, HT), Medical Laboratory Technicians (MLT, CLT), Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS, MT, CLS), Phlebotomists, Couriers, a department Secretary, and a board-certified Pathologist. Our histology team and all our technicians and scientists have at least an associate degree or a bachelor’s degree in addition to their certification. Most of our phlebotomists also have their phlebotomy certification.
There are several clinics at NARMC that have certified MLTs or MLS to perform diagnostic testing at the clinic in addition to collecting and processing patient specimens to be performed at the hospital laboratory or a reference laboratory for services outside our test menu.
Our laboratory encompasses several disciplines in anatomic and clinical pathology: blood bank, clinical chemistry, hematology, histology, immunology, immunohematology, microbiology, molecular microbiology, point of care testing, and toxicology screening. We hold an accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP). CAP exceeds CLIA, FDA, and OSHA regulatory standards to bolster patient care and safety. With this accreditation we go through a rigorous onsite inspection every two years and on the off year we perform a self-inspection. This helps NARMC ensure accurate patient diagnosis.
Last year we performed:
- 198,071 Inpatient Tests
- 645,399 Outpatient Tests
- 225,892 Clinic Outpatient Test
- 784 blood transfusions
- 2,844 Surgical Cases
- 8,277 Anatomic Slides
This year there will be several fun events for our laboratory professionals to participate in from themed dress days, a sundae bar, breakfast, lunch, after work picnic, some giveaways, and rounding out with a Trash Pick up at the Hospital!!!
